January: A Month in Review

Wow. I think I need a lie down.

It is safe to say that January has been a big month for Mytacism Music and I would just like to take the time to thank all our readers for your support, it means a lot. While we have worked hard to constantly produce new bits and bobs for you to read, you have all worked hard to take time and read about the new and unsigned bands that are making us feel hot, and to say that that makes us happy is a huge understatement.
To put it all into perspective for you, we have gained a Twitter following of over 1,000, reached a total of 4,000 page views and everyday this month we have had at least 50 views. And, while that may not seem a lot to you, it is to us. Especially in comparison  to what we were getting so thank you.
So, before you get bored of our love, we would like to show off about some of the bands you liked the most and the bands that we loved.

Some of our most viewed posts this month included the likes of ECMO, Marco Mestichella and Rubber Clown Car but we have compiled the top 5 posts you seem to love.

5. The Everglows: Do they every want to take a break? It seems not as they were featured in our '2014' post as well. Lucky for us the boys have released another mod inspired tune to fall in love with.

4. Claudia Heidegger: Her appearance in this post is not surprising at all. Her beautiful folk/acoustic melodies are hard not to fall in love with.

3. Rigged & Wired: The best rock compilation I have heard in just about forever. Filled with bands such as Katalina Kicks and Pacers it is filled with talent and killer tunes.
2. The Updraft Imperative: These Christian rockers have brought grooves and desirable sounds to the world without throwing their faith at you, making it a brilliant album regardless of your beliefs.
1. Quiet As A Mouse: The presence of these Scottish lovelies is no shock as when you take a listen to their music, within seconds you are hooked onto their allure. Soft and charming, they are a must in your life.
And now onto the artists that made us hot under the collar, the people whose music holds a special something making them completely irresistible.

5. You Are Number 6: I fell in love with this band as soon as I heard them.Their music sounds like a new version of the 1970's/1980's tunes with an added ounce of electronic melodies.
4. Cannibal Animal: Thrashy, rocky and sometimes referred to as the pissed of Joy Division. These guys make the perfect tracks to rock out to.
3. Winter 1982: Beautiful acoustic melodies are produce by this folky duo. They are perfect to wind down to and perfect to simply live to.
2. Paper Penguin: This was the best way to open the new year, Paper Penguin strips down music to the magical experimental stage. The outcome? A consuming mixture of electronic tunes that transport you on your own journey through time.
1. Latenite Automatic: There is one sentence that sums him up: "This is what a band of vampires might sound like after they've been up all night snorting powdered blood and drinking aged hemoglobin". Latenite Automatics music is dark and addicting, overflowing with electronic layers and a voice similar to Trent Reznor.

Perma F

Perma F are back with a new single; 'It's A War'. We reviewed the Swedish duo back in October (have a read here) and we were excited to find out they are back making more music to jam to.

The single release includes a remix of both 'It's A War' and 'Burning Angel', they are both all that you could want from a remix, loyal to the original but with an added foreign feel that sounds so good you have to keep listening to it over and over again.
Also included is 'Beautiful With Horns', a mix of rock and electronic sounds which work surprisingly well together. The end result is a rock song to party to, a track you can't help but move your body and sing along to. There's also an odd beauty to this song which draws you in and you can quite easily find yourself playing this on repeat as well, the heavier guitar gives it a hard edge which juxtaposes with the lighter electronic sounds, the mix of tones cook up a spectacular meal to feast on.
And on to the big act, 'Its A War', a song slightly more hardcore in comparison to the other tracks, the melodies mostly created by an electric guitar. Thats not to say no electronic sounds are included, they have just been given an edge which makes them feel heavier as if they are at war against something. This is a song to jam to and let out all the anger you've got so I would definitely recommend you have a listen.

Cannibal Animal

Cannibal Animal are a three piece band from Hull who produced a sound thats deep and thrashy resulting in them being the perfect band for rock lovers.

They have recently released 'Pavement Jungle'. It has a desirable melancholy sound which draws you into their deep, cavernous sound. The seemingly faraway vocals and the low-pitched bass sets itself apart from the rebellicious drums, leaving you stuck in between, surrounded by the power and strength of the bands musical ability. It is the perfect place to completely lose it.

My Invisable Friend

The Italian trio, My Invisible Friend, make psychedelic/shoegaze/dream pop greats where every song is a new journey on which your mind must depart on. On the 5th of January they released their first self-titled EP, one which has inevitably attracted a fair amount of attention.

Their EP opens with 'O.N.S', a song lead by a glitchy guitar and vibrating electronics. This  would sound like The Dandy Warhols if they swapped their instruments for synths and added feedback to their guitars.

'Eyes' is one of those songs where you can immediately picture it live; a faint pink and purple light display shrouded in smoke as a backdrop for an immaculate performance. Its a song you can completely lose yourself in, like Alice down the rabbit hole. As soon as the song starts you begin to fall, pondering latitude and longitude until eventually you come out, releasing you're still doing your maths homework even though you felt like you were somewhere completely different. You have to love a song that creates you you're very own Alice in Wonderland experience, right?

Ending the EP is 'Dear Mary', a tracked ruled by a haunting voice and a beat akin to that of a heart. This is reaching a psychedelic feel, yet morphs into a rock tone as the song builds up into an overflow of sound and feel. The crescendo heightens your senses and makes our hairs stand on end. This is the perfect track to end the EP.

Rubber Clown Car

Made up of Dirk Prysby, Fred Beasley and Tony Pantalones, Rubber Clown Car are a band who make 'Pure Pop for Paranoid People'. They make what sounds like 60's flavoured pop, their hand-crafted music is fuzzed at the edges but still has an upbeat emotion to it.

The threesome have recently released a self-titled album which is a mix of their own songs and covers. 'She's So High' opens the album impressively with its climatic feel, irresistible vocals that you can't help but sing along to and that insane chorus that gets you excited each time it comes around. Not forgetting the empowering guitar solo that is so good it feels 3 dimensional. 'Don't You Listen' follows, a slower, simpler song focused more on lyrics as the background melodies fade into a simple acoustic aura.

'Kiss You Next Week' brings back the 'oomf' with a rock tinted song. The beat is more prominent and the guitars are slightly heavier, making a darker tone in comparison to the previous tracks. But don't worry, it still something to groove to and completely fits in with the bands sound. 'Good Night America' does sound similar to a lullaby; its plodding beat, the sparkling chink of the tambourine and rough but harmonizing vocals all allude to a 'good night' sort of song.
A personal favorite now enters the scene, 'Jenny Backwards' is very similar to the first song but is more rock than pop based. It is very close to being a kaleidoscopic tune but theres a very small thing missing, making psych just out of reach. 'Seasons of Wither' is coated in seriousness whilst the music emulates sincerity, If this song was a type of weather condition it would definitely be a mist in winter.
Bringing up the rear is 'Sorry', a song which opens which an ominous bass line. But, do not be afraid, for it breaks into a Dandy Warhols kind of jam whilst accompanied by in your face lyrics, two components that work tremendously together and sound incredible.

Quiet As A Mouse

Quiet As A Mouse produce soul tingling compositions, the sort of music that when you play it, you sit back, close your eyes and a warm smile creeps from ear to ear without much persuasion. Everything to do with the Edinburgh foursome is handmade, something which takes some searching for nowadays.

The band has recently released the video to 'Oliviatown' from their EP 'British Flag'.

This is the sort of song that makes your hair stand on end and sends a warm feeling swimming through your veins. Its very neutral and raw, the song mostly made up of strings and the warming voice of Alex Moran. The end result? Beauty. It is a song that just works and everything about it is exceptional.

Claudia Heidegger

Claudia Heidegger is more than music, she comes with her own message which drives her forward. She discusses beliefs and spirituality without the drama, as though speaking what heart believes. And what is the result? A beautiful mix of folk melodies and alluring lyrics sung by a voice made of crystal.
'Don't Be Scared' flows like a stream of water: the glistening voice, the calming strum of guitar and the driving message give a lucid, flowing feeling. It creates a feeling that calms and collects, soothing the soul. 'The Shape Of Your Shadow' has a louder guitar backing and becomes quite melodic as the song goes, reaching an exquisite crescendo. The medieval sound which Claudia seems to have adapted really comes through in this song, adding an extra special feeling.
'Silver And Gold' opens musically with the plucking, medieval styled guitar before being fronted by that gorgeous voice Claudia boasts. The lyrics are particularly irresistible in this song, the light and repetitive 'Tell me a story' really sticks to you. As soon as 'What Am I To You' begins, a serious feel drapes itself over you. You can feel that this is going to be is emotional and full of meaning, and the song lives up to it. The additional instruments in the song add depth whilst Claudia's voice transforms into a sharp, emotional spotlight.

Latenite Automatic

There is something immensely powerful about Latenite Automatic, whether its the strong vocals or the tireless feel to each song, Jay Brown is like a dark electro God. One thing I particularly love about him is his bio: "This is what a band of vampires might sound like after they've been up all night snorting powdered blood and drinking aged hemoglobin." because it is actually quite accurate, the darkness of his music mixed with endless electronic layers makes a sinister fantasy play out in your mind. Unfortunately, Latenite Automatic has only released three songs from his new album ”They Treated Us Like Animals And That’s What We Became”, set to be released in spring, and I can already tell it is going to be an experience.

'Thief in the Night', the most recent release from Latenite Automatic, is lead by powerful vocals which are very similar to Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor. In fact, the entire song has a NIN feel to it, bar the strong industrial sound. I could only describe the sound as a soup of deep, vibrating synthesizers with chunky beats. It is the sort of song you would find if Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory decided to make music and you begun to explore the experimentation rooms.

Rigged & Wired

Rigged and wired is a new compilation album featuring 14 different bands. The CD features bands such as The Rickaneers with their western tinted 'Regime', Katalina Kicks with their quick paced, nearing punk song 'National Hero', DownFall and their killer electric guitars in 'Chin Up' and Pacers with their 60's rock look a like 'Part Of The Scene'. All of the bands have an effortless feel with their music, a sensation which scopes across the compilation making it perfect to listen to.

The music is all rock based but it pans out into different sections as the bands flaunt their different abilities. 'Throw The First Stone' by Rubric has a slightly sassy feel about it, the quick paced lyrics show off, flaunting themselves in your face whilst 'On Your Knees' by Bonze's Fuel has a really dirty rock sound, the deep bass and guitar notes sounding similar to some of The Black Key's earlier stuff. The album also shows a few bands who have obvious inspirations, '6699' by Cloud City Trap sounds very like The Zutons, 'Bipolar Mosaic' by Missionary Fades sound like the Foo Fighters and 'Gloria' by Second Player Score sounds very pop punk, similar to Good Charlotte.
'Every Bit Of Abuse' by Finding Miranda features a softer voice, busy quick paced drums and quiet guitar, all of which make a softer rock tune.'Fallen' by Sea of Echos sounds as atmospheric as the band name suggests, the song is filled with emotionally powered vocals and guitar melodies which surround you. 'LOL' by Viking Krue is very in your face and sound uncannily like the B52's. 'Sleeping with the Enemy' by The Statements opens with a killer build up of guitar riffs and continue by making them wailing. Irresistable. 'Trayvon Martin' by Rugged and Draped has a very freestyle air to it, the vocals sounding like cry and the drums, whilst following a repetitive pattern, sound very raucous and out of control.

You can purchase the rock-filled album at Factory Fast Records.

Winter 1982

Winter 1982 are Birmingham duo who make intricate songs containing a mix of acoustic, folk and indie melodies. They are the perfect band for those fans of Ben Howard, George Ezra and Bon Iver.
'Friend' is a beautiful composition, simple as that. The gentle strum of guitar strings, gradually increasing beat and a crescendo that makes you hair stand on end all cast a spell over you like that in Cinderella, you never want the clock to strike 12 but when it does you feel a faint glow from having had such an amazing experiance. The lyrics hold a certain mystic and, as a prominent lover of literature, I have fallen for a few lines: "Sing a shallow lullaby and hide your lying eyes",  "It's no pathetic fallacy from a weekend-poet's book", "We'll share a sky but not a life and live out separate lives / A book that's broken at the spine.".

ECMO

ECMO is an American rapper who has an incredible story, he died 3 times and wasn't meant to even survive past the age of 4. Not only does his life show a perseverance but his music holds it, you feel the determination in every note and beat that his tracks hold.
Now, I am not normally a rap fan yet ECMO has got me; there is something in his music that makes you just want to listen to it. Whether its the sudden need to move along with 'Purple Horizon' or the serious feel in 'Awakening', you get a feel that this artist is here purely for the music unlike a few others these days. I love the grinding beats, the vibrating bass backing and his voice that holds a level of prestige whilst acting as both the angel and devil on your shoulder.

Taking a listen to 'Seasons', you are delivered a hint of Mod Sun in amongst the begins of the EP. A lot of the tracks in 'Seasons' have the ability to act like bubbles in your head, the beats swelling to fill your mind and then shrinking away for half a second until it bounces back. 'Modest Souls' has a vibrating beat which does exactly this and the foreign noises add a burst of successful originality. The flowing, liquid rap in 'All Seeing Eye' and powerful burst of vocals in 'Chasing Voices' is also something to be admired, both showing emotion but in two stunning ways. The atmosphere created in 'Nobody Here' is an admirable beauty too, it surrounds you like a mysterious fog.

The Updraft Imperative

I bring to you something new today, a new breed of Christian rock. I only call it a new breed as this is the first time I have found a Christian rock album which I would take the time to listen to. And, considering I'm not religious, I was very skeptical of whether I would enjoy the music but as soon as I clicked the link it became very obvious to me that I should be more open-minded and that The Updraft Imperative must be on a mission, deliberate or not, to make Christian rock something more enjoyable than the stereotypical devoted man with a guitar, singing about his love for Jesus. So, to get this straight, religious or not, this Australian trio are worth reading about and their sound is way more developed than the stereotype.

The bands album 'Chair' is filled with groovy rock, an irresistible sounds which sends good vibes through your body. The lyrics also give off an undisputable warming feeling that is acquired regardless of beliefs as the warming thought of someone being there for you and the emotive, meaningful way they express this reminds you that in the harsh world we live in, there is still an emotional power to be observed.
Now, like every good album, 'Chair' has its slow and meaningful songs, faster more upbeat tunes and the ones which contain an unmistakable atmosphere. All of the songs are done with an attitude which has ensured that the outcomes of these songs have been almost perfect, sounding expert but humble and true to themselves, a factor which is able to draw you in. No one appreciates an artist who knows how good they are right?

You Are Number 6

You Are Number 6 literally sounds like someone has taken a big bowl and poured in some late 1970/ early 1980's melodies, the slightest pinch of a feel good sensation, a handful of new wave sounds and a sprinkling of Bowie like vocals. And guess what it makes? Heaven. (I have to admit that when I was writing this review, I ended up listening to him for the rest of the night, I couldn't bring myself to change the artist.)

'Palimpsest' proudly brings out the electronic wails, melodies tinted with sci-fi and that deep voice, masking every word with meaning. I love the fact the song keeps building itself up but it doesn't quite let it happen, as if the song is holding some sort of secret.

A newer track of his is 'Forever Through Time' which continues to hold onto the essence he has created for himself. This track seems more focused on his affectionate lyrics rather than the melodies like 'Palimpsest'.

Marco Mestichella

Marco Mestichella's music is cinematic, a great performance with all the notes in the right places and nothing slipping out of place. His sounds have a professional warmth to them, they make you feel good but the skilled aura induces a feeling of awe instead. Another notable part of his music is his voice, it is one that is smooth and composed, almost crooning into your ear.

The first song I took a look at was 'Fragments Of Light', a song boasting a very real sense of groove and an uber coolness. The song is ruled by the perfect drum beat, the periodic hit of the cymbal keeping everything in perfect form. However, Marco's vocals hold the magic in this song, a large majority of it is spoken in a low voice which then switches to a beautiful, melodic singing voice for the choruses.

Another song I took note of was 'Process Of Neglect'. I loved this one because it feels like a book, you get the sense you are about to be swept up in a story as soon as the song begins, which is true as when you focus on the lyrics, you hear Marco asking 'Give me a reason', entering you mid scene to his story. It is also full with beautiful lyrics, a particular favourite being: "In a very deep sea / Full of fears, full of hopes / I was on the road".

The Everglows

Guess who's back? Thats right, our favourite trio has come back again with another 60's styled song to romance our ears. Have a look at our previous posts of The Everglows here and here.

Like their previous tracks, Amanita is fast paced, full of fuzz and holds onto those typical layered 60's vocals. Not only does it sound incredibly good, it's seriously catchy. The wistful, almost harmonic calling of 'Amanita' will not fail to get caught up in your minds.

Paper Penguin

Irish and Stylish is all I can say. Paper Penguin is unlike anything I've heard, in fact the Soundcloud page is filled to the brim with sounds which feel like a science experiment with only good outcomes. It is oddly beautiful and otherworldly, like how you would expect a visit from friendly aliens. Although I do hope Paper Penguin do eventually stop being the alluring alien and more people like this come out the woodwork to share their work.

I think my favorite two tracks are Level 22 and Glazed. Glazed feels like a party with a hint of sadness or rejection while Level 22 feels like a beautiful journey into an attractive something.

Glazed has an easy beat with electric tones which fill up your skull like water. It almost makes you shiver it feels so consuming. I'm in total love with it as it has the ability that everyone needs these days; the ability to remove your thoughts, even if it is just for 3 minutes and 12 seconds.

Level 22 feels like it has it's own beating heart, thoughts and pumping lungs. I know it sounds like I'm either high or insane but if you really listen to it, it has this very feel.. The different tempos, periodic sounds and the almost vibrating white noise preventing a daunting silence all make you feel like you're in a mind, listening to the sound of emotion and thought, moving and breathing.

If you want the best experience of the music, I think late evening when you can't get to sleep or something, when the song can start to tell your relaxed mind a story.
